Self-Organization in Two-Dimensional Organic Molecular Systems (Applications in Biomembranes)
نویسنده
چکیده
Formation of a monomolecular layer (the Langmuir monolayer) at the air/water interface is a self-organized process. On the basis of measurements of A isotherms, mechanical and thermodynamic properties of 2D molecular systems can be evaluated. The concept is applied to the study of molecular interactions in a binary system in biological membranes: L-dimyristoyl phosphatidylcholine (DMPC) and gramicidin A.

Biological Applications of Bacterial Nano-Surface Layers : A Brief Overview
Surface layer as the outer protective coverage of bacteria and archaea are two-dimensional crystalline and symmetrical arrays of proteins that recently attract a lot of attention for biologist scientists. The surface layers of bacteria are usually 5 to 10 nm in diameter and represent highly porous protein lattices with uniform size and morphology with the pore sizes of 2 to 8 nm. The crucial an...
متن کاملSelf-similar solutions of the Riemann problem for two-dimensional systems of conservation laws
In this paper, a new approach is applied to study the self-similar solutions of 2×2 systems of nonlinear hyperbolic conservation laws. A notion of characteristic directions is introduced and then used to construct local and smooth solutions of the associated Riemann problem
متن کاملProperties and applications of quantum dot heterostructures grown by molecular beam epitaxy
One of the main directions of contemporary semiconductor physics is the production and study of structures with a dimension less than two: quantum wires and quantum dots, in order to realize novel devices that make use of low-dimensional confinement effects. One of the promising fabrication methods is to use self-organized three-dimensional (3D) structures, such as 3D coherent islands, which ar...
متن کاملOne-dimensional self-assembly of planar pi-conjugated molecules: adaptable building blocks for organic nanodevices.
In general, fabrication of well-defined organic nanowires or nanobelts with controllable size and morphology is not as advanced as for their inorganic counterparts. Whereas inorganic nanowires are widely exploited in optoelectronic nanodevices, there remains considerable untapped potential in the one-dimensional (1D) organic materials. This Account describes our recent progress and discoveries ...
متن کاملIntroduction of a Novel Two-Dimensional Equation of State to Predict Gas Equilibrium Adsorption in Highly-Nonideal Systems
Abstract The accurate calculations of adsorption equilibrium for multicomponent gas systems are of great importance in many applications. In this paper, five two-dimensional equations of state 2D-EOS, i.e. Van der Waals, Eyring, Zhou-Ghasem-Robinson, Soave-Redlich-Kwong and Peng-Robinson, were examined to find out their abilities to predict adsorption equilibrium for pure and multi-component ga...
